E-Letter #4, December 18, 2003
Dear Marine Life Advocate:
We did it! On Friday, December 5th, the Monterey Bay National
Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council (SAC) unanimously adopted the Special
Marine Protected Areas Action Plan. The Plan establishes a process and
framework for considering creation of marine protected areas, including marine
reserves in Sanctuary waters. This is exactly the result we'd been
hoping for since so many of you appeared at the public meeting back on July
30. Thanks again to all of you who signed petitions, wrote letters,
and especially to everyone who attended the SAC meeting in July to voice support
for making the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary a true "sanctuary"
for marine life. Your efforts were key to this successful outcome!
We thank you for your support and look forward to working with you in 2004. Happiest
Holiday Wishes to everyone!
Sincerely,
Everyone at COOL.
PS In addition to your help, COOL received valuable help from four Santa Cruz
County businesses: New Leaf Markets, Metro Santa Cruz, Bay Photo Lab, and Palace
Art & Office Supply. These companies donated materials and services essential
to the effort, and we encourage you to thank them with your patronage.
PPS COOL and its member organizations will use your email address only to keep
you informed about Marine Reserves in California, and related developments.
We will never share this list with anyone else. Please ask your friends to register
their support for new reserves at our Sign-up page.
